A section of angry residents in Busia Municipality on Friday stormed the Resident District Commissioner’s office protesting against harassment by Uganda Revenue Authority-URA enforcement officers.
At least six people who including Alex Malinga, David Wanyama, Arnold Kitya, Grace Malinga , Hamza Mugoya, Tiff Kato among others all residents of Solo A village in the Western division were allegedly attacked on Thursday following an accident in the Municipality.
Malinga says that they were attacked by the soldiers a few hours after a road accident involving a URA enforcement vehicle registration number UBA 678Q and a commuter taxi registration number UAZ 044 Z where three people were seriously injured.
According to Malinga, the soldiers accused the residents of destroying the URA enforcement vehicle.
John Rex Achila, the Busia Resident District Commissioner, says that has registered several complaints from some of the residents who were assaulted.
Duncan Kakonge, the URA manager in charge Eastern region couldn’t be reached for comment since he was unable to receive several calls made by our reporter.
