(URN)A 23 year-old security guard with JAG security group, Ause Lubandi was has this morning been shot dead at a GP Global petrol station, located along Kamuli road in Southern division of in Jinja city.
The assailants also fled off with his gun of SAR series, with serial number, SAR UGPOL M-499527.
Lubandi’s has been taken to Jinja regional referral hospital’s mortuary for postmortem.
Eye witnesses say that Lubandi had slept off in a commuter taxi, which had been parked within the petrol station’s premises, when two men who were walking on foot stormed the area and started calling out pump attendants. However when Lubandi attempted to inquire what had transpired, they instead shot him dead and fled.
A guard at one of the neighboring buildings says that the incident occurred at about 6:30am and after the shooting, the suspects fled towards Mpumudde area, in Southern division, in Jinja city.
“The incident occurred at about 6:30am, in the sight of some passersby, who were heading for work and after the shooting, I noticed the two men run towards the Mpumudde route, which is located next to the petrol station,” he says.
While addressing journalists about the incident, Kiira region’s police spokesperson, James Mubi says that the suspects who are still at large will face two counts of murder by shooting and aggravated robbery, under CRB; 999/2021.
Mubi stresses that, two cartridges and blood samples, which were recovered from the scene of crime shall be handed over to government’s analytical laboratory for further forensic investigation, so as to foster efforts of quickening investigations.
He adds that canine unit dogs have already been to the scene of crime and detectives have also embarked on the efforts of recording statements from viable eyewitnesses.
This the second incident of shooting security guards deployed at different petrol stations along major highways within Jinja city in three months.
The first case involved the death of James Okuboi, a security guard attached with Security Group Africa-SGA, who was shot dead while guarding Stabex petrol station on 7th, October 2021.
To date, police authorities are yet to conclude inquiries pertaining to the October shooting, with sources privy to these investigations claiming that the scene was severely tampered with by onlookers, which has since then frustrated their efforts of pursuing the primary leads earlier on obtained to quicken the arrest of the suspects.
