Uganda Boxing Federation- UBF has released a roadmap to its forthcoming Federation’s General Elections. The roadmap was released by the newly appointed presiding officer Bruno Sserunkuma.
The election is scheduled for 22nd January 2021 during the elective General Assembly that will be held at Kati Kati club in Lugogo, Kampala.
In the election, several positions will be competed for including those of President, General Secretary, Treasurer, representative of women in boxing and a representative for the ex-internationals.
According to the road map released, interested candidates will be expected to pick their nomination forms on 3rd January and they will be expected to return them between the 10th to 15th of January 2021.
The UBF Secretariat will later verify the submitted papers and the duly nominated candidates will be declared on the 19th of January 2021 as the election day draws closer.
However, the returning officer said the dates can be rescheduled in any case.
“Any time set herein may with sufficient reasons/ cause be extended or reduced depending on the nature of responses from the intended candidates or candidate,” part of the roadmap reads.
Previously, the Federation amended the constitution before the General election, and the amendments in the new constitution include shifting the academic qualifications for UBF executive candidacy from an Ordinary Level certificate to A’ level and above or equivalent.
Although the amendments faced opposition from the boxing fraternity, the incumbent boxing Federation later revealed that the constitution was amended following the advice of the high court judge Her Worship Lydia Mugambe in 2018 who cited many loopholes in it.
Now, the returning officer made it clear in the roadmap that “the qualification and requirements for each elective office shall be strictly in accordance with the 2021 as amendments which are well known by any interested candidate contesting for any elective office”.
