Youth leaders in Lango are demanding involvement in the mobilization and implementation of the Parish Model program.
The youth are worried that if not involved, the parish chiefs and other leaders will sideline them during implementation.
During a meeting on Tuesday with the Minister of Gender Labour and Social Development, Chrispus Apunyo, the Chairperson Kole district Youth council expressed concern that the youth might be left out like it was done in other government programs.
Betty Amongi, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development explained that the ministry will issue guidelines for youths, women, and PWDs to be included in the mobilization and implementation of the program.
However, Lawrence Egole, the Lira City Resident Commissioner asked for additional information concerning the Parish Development Model. He said that his office is overwhelmed with concerns from the community who think money has been sent and the district leaders are not putting it to use.
But Amongi said that the Ministry of Finance has not yet released the funds for the program.
Christine Anono, the Lira District Community Development officer advised the Minister to consider advocating for more funding for operations saying most times programs are supposed to be implemented by the community development office stall due to inadequate operational funds.
James Ebitu, the Director of Social Development in the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development said that the funds are not a donation and should therefore be utilized effectively.
