Police are holding a 27-year-old man for allegedly raping an 89-year-old woman in Oyam District. It is alleged that Felix Aporo, a resident of Apidodok village, Aloni parish in Iceme sub-county broke into the house of Merina Ayo and raped her around 4 am on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the suspect threatened to kill Ayo in case she tries to resist or make an alarm. The victim was later rushed to Iceme HC IV for medical examination while Aporo was arrested hours later while trying to flee.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident describing it as “unfortunate.”
Meanwhile, in Apac District, police are looking for Albino Okwir after he set ablaze a grass thatched house. The fire killed Brian Amoki, a 6-year-old son of his wife, Annette Acio.
A resident of Alik ‘A’ village in Chegere sub-county, Okwir is alleged to have set the house on fire at midnight following a misunderstanding with Acio, who already had two children from her previous relationship. The two children were rushed to Apac Nursing Home for medication where Amoki died while his elder brother 15-year-old Erick Egungu is receiving treatment.
According to Police, the suspect is still on the run although a murder case has been registered at Apac Central Police Station. Jimmy Okema advised couples to seek help from influential people in the community other than taking laws into their hands.
