A day after the resumption of studies, parents of Kasokero Primary school in Kagadi district have blocked the headteacher from accessing the school accusing him of being incompetent and a habitual drunkard.
The parents accused Peace Tumwine of neglecting his school duties and failing to perform. They locked the classrooms on Tuesday morning protesting the presence of the headteacher.
The parents allege that during the lockdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Tumwine engaged in excessive consumption of alcohol to the extent of becoming a public nuisance.
The parents say they can’t allow such a headteacher to head the school where their children are learning from calling upon the education authorities in the district to transfer him somewhere else.
The parents demanded Tumwine’s replacement by a committed person to improve the academic performance of the school.
The parent’s protest drew the attention of Kagadi District Education Officer-DEO, Bathlemew Bukenya, who rushed to the school to contain the situation. He asked the aggrieved parents to be patient and put their complaints in writing to the relevant authorities.
Tumwine refuted the allegations leveled against him by the parents, saying they are baseless and aimed at tarnishing his public image. He insisted that he is still the substantive headteacher until he gets instructions from the District Education department.
Abiibu Mugisa, the LC III Chairperson Kyenzige town council where the school is located asked residents to calm down and use the right procedures to air their grievances.
