Police in Masindi are investigating circumstances under which a student of Kabalega Secondary school in Masindi Municipality was found dead in the school dormitory.
The deceased Edmond Turyasiima, 21, a senior six student was found dead inside the school dormitory on Friday morning at around 10a.m. The deceased hails from Kinyamurara village in Bwijanga sub county in Masindi district.
Andrew Tumwesige, the school headteacher told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Friday that the student did not wake up for morning reading (preps) adding that the situation forced his colleagues to check on him only to find him dead.
He says after confirming that Turyasiima was dead, they immediately alerted police who rushed to the school and picked the body which was later delivered to Masindi General hospital mortuary.
A student at the school who spoke to Uganda Radio Network on condition of anonymity revealed that the deceased was very humble while in class.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the sudden death of the student adding that investigations have commenced.
He says upon receiving the information, police rushed to the school and picked the body that was later taken to Masindi Hospital for postmortem to be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
According to Hakiza, the postmortem report indicated that the student died due to suffocation. He adds that the student had for long been suffering from epilepsy which the school authorities were also aware of.
Albert Mwesigwa, an uncle to the deceased student explains that he was always humble both at school and home adding that his dream was to become an engineer.
