Bat Valley theatre opened its doors to revellers with a stage play Kibimbiri The Man of God on Friday evening following two years of closure triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The play by Afri Talent depicts the rampant corruption in the community, other sectors of the government and the greed for wealth among the community.
In the play, John Mary Ssekimpi, who acted as the Man of God conspired with the commander of prisons to grab people’s land and property and lock them on false accusations.
The play also depicts the behaviour of prison waders towards the inmates and the conflict of command. Speaking at a cocktail party before the start of the play, Mariam Ndagire, the Manager of Bat Valley theatre said that the long lockdown helped them to organize themselves as theatre artists.
Abbey Mukiibi, the director of Afri Talent urged youths to get involved in theatre art for continuity of theatre in Uganda.
Juma Bunjako, a reveller from Luzira said that the play shows the greed among people and the rampant land grabbing in the country.
Zahara Nanyonjo from Mukono district said the play brings out the situation of many people who are in prisons and in the community.
Zampapula Kibirige from Mengo, said the play depicts exactly what people have been going through during the two years of the lockdown
The four hours play attracted over 400 people most from other performing theatre-like Zubayiri Family, pearl screen picture Uganda among other groups. They came to support and witness the reopening of the theatre.
