Muni University in Arua city has announced Associate professor Simon Anguma Katrini as the acting Vice chancellor of the University, replacing Professor Christine Dranzoa who passed in June this year.
His appointment is on the recommendation of the University Council and the chancellor of Muni University Dr. Erick Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko. Associate professor Anguma will serve as the acting vice chancellor for a period of six months, effective September 2022.
Before his appointment, Associate Professor Anguma served as the deputy vice chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs at Muni University. He joined Muni University in 2015 from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), where he among others served as dean of Faculty of Science at Mbarara University of science and technology.
In an internal memo to the staff and students of Muni University, the University Secretary Emmanuel Banya commended the chancellor of the university Dr. Erick Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko for the appointment.
“Pursuant to section 31 (4) of the universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended and on the recommendation of the Muni University, the chancellor of muni university appointed Assoc. prof. Anguma Simon Katrini as the acting vice chancellor Muni university”, reads part of the memo.
Meanwhile, George Eyak, a fourth-year student of bachelor in nursing science pharmacy at the university has describes Anguma as an administrator who is student centered.
Associate professor Anguma holds a master of science in Physics, specializing in Nuclear Radiation Physics and a PhD in Physics, specializing in solar energy physics. He is also a leader of East African Astronomical Society.
