National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Bill Clinton Nasasira won the Mbarara University of Science and Technology ( MUST) guild Presidential elections that took place on Friday 1st October 2022.
Nasasira polled 945 votes to win the race which had five candidates.
Moreen Katushabe of Justice Forum (Jeema Party) got (785 votes) in the second position, Martin Nuwabwine from the rulling National Residence Movement (NRM) got 495, independent candidates Kenneth Nuwaha (444 votes) and Augustine Erima (292 votes) respectively.
“The voting process started at 8am and ended at 5pm amidst tight security that helped us never to have chaos at the university so i thank who ever turned up to vote for their best candidates.” Said Hellenah Nagawa Luyinda MUST electoral commission chairman.
In his words, the newly elected guild president Clinton Nasasira said
“The race has been so competitive and tight but i thank God have won, There are many things that are going to change because I am coming to the office that I was always prepared for.”“Look at service providers, look at rehabilitation of the halls of residence, look at insecurity in residences, these are things that i and my cabinet are going to formalize, and then we shall also tap into scholarships so that students of MUST can benefit,” Nasasira added.
However, Justice Forum candidate Katushabe and one of the defeated candidates said the election process wasn’t free and fair process and therefore she can not allow the released results by the electoral commission until they produce the declaration forms.
“Those are fabricated results and we cannot associate ourselves with those results because they are fake. We shall be communicating the next move once we are settled and I am ready to do whatever it takes.” said Katushabe.
