The state of roads in Kasese Municipality is causing an outcry among residents. Most of the roads are filled with potholes and have become non-motorable during the rainy season as they become slippery.
Jafari Kighutiya, the LCI Chairperson Basecamp lower says that efforts made in the past by residents to patch sections of the road have not yielded results as the rains wash away the soil.
He blames the municipality authorities for failing to address the concerns of the residents for years.
Kighutiya adds that they have recorded more than ten accidents in the last month of Boda Boda riders who fall in the potholes that were created by running waters.
Merica Kabugho, a resident of Base Camp says they have lost about two children in the last five months and more than five are still in the hospital due to accidents.
Julius Buhaka, from Kiteso Cell, says they are forced to use alternative routes especially when it rains amidst the high prices of fuel. He says most of the roads in the outskirts of the town centre are in a very poor state calling upon the municipal administration to take action.
Samuel Thembo, the LCI Chairperson Kitose Cell blames the municipality for failing to cover up the deep gullies that have been created in the middle of roads.
Martin Kule, a resident of Habitant said that in some cases they use their personal money to support residents to patch sections of the roads in the area.
Kambasu Zedekia Kayiri, the Deputy Town Clerk Kasese Municipal Council says that they have already put it to the attention of the government to allocate resources to clear the gullies and improve the drainage systems.
According to Kayiri, the municipality lacks adequate funds to repair the roads.
