Bukedea district authorities have finally handed over the office of the District Health Officer– DHO to Dr. Emmanuel Okallany Odeke. Dr. Odeke was recruited following the March 1, 2022 job advertisement but didn’t access the office over administrative issues.
He joined the office where Stephen Ikodet was serving as the acting DHO for close to a decade. Sources in the district indicate that the district had sourced for a substantive DHO in vain. However, this year’s advert attracted a suitable applicant who was recruited in July 2022. But information from the district indicates that the officer had not yet assumed office after he was advised to stay out until the end of September.
A section of district officials was surprised that the new DHO has not started work after completing all the required formalities.
However, on Thursday, the new DHO accessed his office in the presence of the Chief Administrative Officer, Joseph Maria Mukasa, and Ikodet.
According to Mukasa, the allegations that the new DHO had been blocked out of office were false. He said that they were waiting for Dr. Odeke to report.
According to Mukasa, Ikodet will continue as an Assistant DHO.
Bukedea has been sourcing in vain, a substantive DHO for several years. The latest advert ran in January 2020 before this year’s advert that brought on board, Dr. Odeke. URN
