Co-Director and Chairman 100.2 Galaxy FM Mr Pius Kamugisha (Uncle Pio) died on the way to the hospital after sustaining severe injuries from a road accident along Entebbe-Kampala Expressway.
This nasty accident is said to have happened on Saturday at 10pm in the night at Nakigala along the Entebbe-Kampala Expressway in when both Lt Col Byaruhabga and Kamugisha cars crashed.
According to reports from the police the dual that is to say Lt Col Byaruhabga and Kamugisha were from Entebbe heading to Busega leading tragedy. “The territorial traffic police at Kajjansi have registered a fatal accident at Nakigala along the Entebbe Kampala Express highway. The accident happened on the 22.10.2022 at around 2200/C”
“The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UG 0382D (Toyota Hilux) that was being driven by LT Col Byaruhabga Ephraim *I.O* *1st* *Div* *Kakiri* and motor vehicle registration number UBK 320P Benz black driven by Kamugisha Pius the C.E O of Galaxy FM” Report from the Police.
Further more the statement from the traffic and road spokesperson, “The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UG 0382D (Toyota Hilux) that was being driven by Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhabga I.O 1st Division Kakiri and motor vehicle registration number UBK 320P Benz black driven by Pius Kamugisha whom we have established to be the C.E O of Galaxy FM and a resident of Senge, Wakiso who died on the way to hospital,” said ASP Faridah Nampiima.
The statement also says that towards Nakigalala at Kilometer 10, the driver of UBK 320P (Kamugisha) who was speeding decided to overtake MV UG which was driving in the outer lane at a short distance, in the process, he knocked MV UG 0382D on rear light on the driver’s side, continued by scratching the driver’s door and then hit off the side mirror.
Adding that “Kamugisha then lost control and knocked the middle concrete barrier before his vehicle crossed back to the outer lane, rolled to the trench and overturned several times up to the resting position approximately 600m from the point of impact.”
The CEO sustained severe injuries, which led ti his but died before he could reach Mulago National Referral Hospital.
However police said thar the cause of the accident was reckless driving and drink drinking and promised to do further investigation for clarity. “The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving and drink driving (as some Bottles of Alcohol were recovered from the vehicle of the deceased)” Police tweeted.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mulago mortuary.
