Police of Madi Okolo are investigating an incident of death of two siblings who drowned in River Nile on November 22, 2022.
The Police say this incident happened when these two had gone fishing on the shores of the Nile.
Ms Angocheya Josephine-Police Public Relations Officer West Nile Region said that the deceased are identified as Widonga Samuel 32years and Piroth Felix 28years both Alur by tribe, residents of Olwavu village,pawor sub county,Madi Okolo district.
“It’s alleged that the two siblings went fishing using a canoe on River Nile on 22nd November 2022 at 4:00pm. While fishing, a strong wave blew off the canoe, making them fall and disappear in the water.This information was sent to their father one Owachgiu Emmanuel by onlookers, he reported to Pawor Police Station,” Ms Angocheya said in a statement.
One of the bodies was recovered between 23rd-24th November 2022,the other one is still being searched in the water.
The police opened a report case,reference number 04/23/11/2022 and urged the communities living near water bodies and fishermen to be careful since water waves are always unpredictable and advised them to take up safety measures like wearing life jackets and lasers on water in order to save lives.
