The high court in Kampala has ordered for the production of the bodyguard of National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine within four days, whether dead or alive for hearing.
The application made by justices of the high court asked the Uganda Police, Chieftaincy for Military Intelligence (CMI) as well as the Attorney General to produce Mr Jamshid Kavuma on Tuesday next week without fail.
“Take Notice that the hearing of this case has been fixed for December 6, 2022 at 09:00 o’clock in the fore/afternoon or soon thereafter the case can be heard in this court. If no appearance is made on your behalf, by yourself/our pleader or someone authorized by law to act for you, the case will be heard in your absence,” in part read the court notice.
Kavuma was picked from his work place by men wearing military fatigue, bundled him into a waiting drone car and drove him together with three other colleagues to an unknown place.
Family Members of the victims were at NUP offices on Wednesday demanding that their relatives be released or at least produced in court of law for hearing. They also indicated that if they have been killed, at least let them be given to them for a decent burial.
Following the incidents, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake rose up in parliament and protested the continued abductions and holding incommunicado, party members and supporters. He was summoned by the deputy speaker of parliament for disciplinary action.
This morning, Mr George Musisi, the lead counsel in the case said that they have looked around all places where they expect that these victims could be held but inn futility.
“We suspect that either police or CMI are holding Kavuma and his other colleagues and we are happy that the court has pronounced itself on the matter. We hope that this will be respected,” Mr Musisi said in an interview.
“We expect him to be dumped, arraigned and charged or even remanded but that will be an effort that we have always waited to yield fruit. Let us see what happens,” he added.
