Carter Jorine Karyn, a student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law(LLB) has been elected as the new Guild President of Victoria University 2023/2024.
Carter won the election with a total number of votes 914 and a percentage of 47.5%.
According to the office of the Dean of Students, 1924 students voted through the Vclass portal.
In a press release Ms. Winfred Nassiwa, the Dean of Students expressed,
“As a University, we congratulate all the guild candidates who participated in the race and the whole students’ body for exercising the right to vote,” Ms Nassiwa said.
Victoria University nominated 5 candidates on the 11th November 2022, four aspirants being male and one female.
This kickstarted the campaigns were aspirants expressed their manifesto to the fellow students through open campaigns and open debate discussions that were held at the university.
Voting was conducted online for the second time in a row using the students class portal, voting was scheduled for two days to allow every student cast their vote to their desired candidate. This was conducted live in that whoever finished voting was able to see the number of votes each candidate has which made the polls easier to track.
The other candidates in the race included;
Serebe Eugan 138 votes 7.2%, Etomet Gilbert 194 votes 10.1%, Mulangira Nakibinge Samuel 528 votes 27.4% and Rwothomio Denis 150 votes 7.8%.
Carter is the second female guild president in a row taking the seat of her predecessor Kirabo Michelle.
