A Boda Boda rider who said he is a supporter of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has narrated his ordeal to indicating that he was torture to near death after he was picked from Kazo in Nansana Wakiso District a fortnight ago.
Eric Mwesigwa told Bobi Wine this afternoon that he was dumped in areas of Kyebando near Kampala with fresh wounds of burns.
Bobi Wine has condemned such inhumane acts inflicted on citizens by security operatives and he has accused Uganda Human Rights Commission for being part of these human rights violations by failing to acknowledge the fact that abductions are ongoing.
“Unfortunately the military and other security operatives continue to be used to violate human rights
Our brother Mwesigwa is the latest survivor of abduction as you can see he was tortured grossly during his days in detention. Very unfortunately the Uganda Human Rights Commission which is supposed to be defending human rights is part of the human rights violators by denying that there are abductions here and it is a moment of shame to the head of human rights commission Madam Wagadya and it should be such words coming from her mouth,”Bobi Wine said
Mwesigwa alleged that he was tortured on accusations of having plans with Bobi Wine together with the freedom Boda camp.
“I was blind folded and later asked what my role is in the National Unity Platform, they said that there’s something we were planning with NUP principal Kyagulanyi a crook because they were told that we are planning something to oust the sitting government,“ Mwesigye narrates.
Mwesigwa broke down while narrating the pain that was inflicted on him by his tormentors because he claims that he was handcuffed and blindfolded and so he couldn’t do anything to defend himself.
“They put some metal like items on my body and they were painful, they had blindfolded and put me under chains, I couldn’t see anyone around but could feel someone in my presence,” Mwesigye said.
He also added that “I told them am innocent, I didn’t do anything wrong, they said to me ‘you will tell us everything I told them to check my phone and see if they will find anything to do with Kyagulanyi and NUP.”
Security response
Both the spokespersons of the Uganda Police Forces and Uganda People’s Defence Forces told 24/7 that they had no knowledge of the person in their custody and have not seen him.
“I don’t know him personally but let me find out from CMI (Chieftaincy for Military Intelligence) and call you back with a response,” Brig Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson said in a telephone interview.
