Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende has returned from Agakhan Hospital in Kenya where she has been hospitalised for close to four months following her critical condition she faced November last year.
Malende this morning touched the ground at Entebbe Airport together with her fiancée Mr Shamir Ssebunya as she was received by party National Unity (NUP) members. Rolling in a wheelchair, Malende who still looked frail told the media that she has not yet gained her full physical strength save for the mental.
“I can promise that I am back and much as I am not yet well (physically) because I am still on treatment and I am supposed to be going back for medical reviews. I am going to be ensuring that I execute my pro-bono duties to ensure that our incarcerated persons especially the foot-soldiers (supporters) are helped,” she said in a faint voice.
Malende was first admitted at Rubaga Hospital in early November where her health condition worsened prompting the doctors referred her for specialised treatment before she was airlifted to Agakhan Hospital where she underwent several emergency abdominal surgeries.
At the time of her hospitalisation, her caretakers told this website that the doctors indicated that the youthful MP had been found with, “some foreign bodies” in her stomach.
“I thank the leadership of the National Unity Platform especially the President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and the secretary general ,they have really done so much for me. The president actually took it upon himself and the secretary general to visit me in Agakhan even left a care taker for me so am entirely grateful,” Malende said.
She also added, “I also thank our foot-soldiers and other change seeking Ugandans for what they have continued to do to ensure that they fight for change ,the hope is not all lost . I also want to thank the people of Kampala for entrusting me with the responsibility of being their voice but also for all the prayers they have sent me, I will forever be grateful.”
