The territorial Police of Arua City are investigating an incident of aggravated robbery where a businessman allegedly lost Shs50m to a highway robber.
A one Mohammed Abiriga of Abiriga and Sons Enterprises along Rhinocamp road, Arua City and the colleague told the police that they were robbed of Shs50 at Air Japan trading center within Arua City on 25th February 2023 at around 8:10pm.
” It’s alleged that the victim one Abiriga Mohammed Hassan left his work place located at Rhinocamp road in Arua City at 8:00pm together with two female workmates carrying about Shs50 in a back bag going back home in Tanganyika central, Ayivu East Division, Arua City, in a motor vehicle with registration number UBB 764S Carib type, Silver in colour. Before reaching Air Japan trading center, he dropped off one of his workmates and proceeded with another up to Air Japan where he stopped at the shop of his mother to pick her along to home,” the police statement authored by Josephine Angucia spokesperson of West Nile.
“Immediately after opening the driver’s door, two men on a numberless Bajaj motorcycle arrived and opened the co driver’s door where the bag containing the money was placed and removed it. Upon seeing what was happening, he tried to struggle with the men but then the one who was armed started shooting at him as they were escaping and they abandoned their motorbike at the scene. Six bullets were fired at the scene and they continued shooting as they escaped towards Madi cell, Tanganyika ward, Arua City,” the statement added.
Angucia urged the general public not to move with large amount of cash money on their bodies as such can expose them to the risk of being robbed indicating that there is need for security consciousness and vigilance amongst the business operators not to follow the same routine of movement as criminals can easily plan to rob them.
She also added, “We also advice the community members to do neighborhood watch and inform the security team on those possessing illegal guns such that operations can be mounted to remove them out of the communities.”
