The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has said that the confirmation of the exact day for Eid al Fitr celebrations is yet to be declared as the institution waits for the final declaration.
Mr Ashraf Zziwa the spokesperson of UMSC told this publication in a telephone interview that they will be making the communication in a press conference later today.
“We shall have a press conference this afternoon and confirm the day of Eid but as of now I dont have any communication from my superiors about the celebrations,” Mr Zziwa said.
Mr Zziwa was commenting on a communication that came in from the Government through the Ministry of Public Service confirming that tomorrow, April 21, 2023 will be a public holiday in observance of the breaking the fasting period of the Muslims across the world.
“The Honorable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that tomorrow April 21, 2023 is Eid al Fitr and will be observed as a public holiday throughout Uganda pursuant to the Public Holiday Act, 1965,” in part read the notice released by the PS, Ms Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire.
This notice comes shortly after Kenya also announced tomorrow as the day for Eid day.
