The Shawwal crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
According to Islam, the sighting of the crescent symbolizes the beginning and the end of the fasting period which is followed by the celebrations dubbed “Eid al Fitr.”
Speaking during a press briefing at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala, The Director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, noted that Eid al Fitr will be celebrated on Friday 21, and that the National prayers were to be led by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda at the National Mosque in Old Kampala commencing at 8 am in the morning.
” I would like to inform you and all Moslems in Uganda that the moon has been sighted this evening,” he said adding that this was according to the Islamic teaching and guidance.
This publication was the first media house to break the news on its social media handles indicating that the Shawwal crescent moon which has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, just minutes after they released the information. News 24/7 had been following the search for the crescent.
