The State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola has been shot dead.
Minister Engola was shot at Tuesday morning by his bodyguard at his home in Kyanja ring-road found in Nakawa Division in Kampala.
Eye witnesses said that after shooting killing his boss, the guard whose names has not yet been identified fired in the air several times shouting on top of his voice how he could be working for a minister and yet he is broke. The explanation that was given to this publication from the inside sources indicated that they had gone several months without pay.
“They looked frustrated when they came here yesterday. They complained that they had not been paid for four months,” a woman who runs a food kiosk in the neighborhood said.
While presiding over the morning parliamentary session, the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Anita Among confirmed the minister’s death.
“This morning, I received sad news that Hon Engola has been shot by his bodyguard and after, shot himself. May his soul rest in peace. That was God’s plan. We can’t change anything,” Ms Among said.
The scene of crime has been cordoned off by security personnel. The minister’s body is still at the scene where he was shot from. By press time, the shooter’s body was also still in the salon where he reportedly shot himself from.
The guard who had caused the demise of the minister also later ended his life with the very gun that he has used.
