The Butiki League season 3 match day 1 happened on Saturday, the 29th of April 2023 at St. Henry’s playground, Kabalagala in Kampala.
Eighteen teams are registered to take part in this edition with three new entrants in Window FC (2003-2008), Top Layer FC (2000-2005), and Yellow Market FC (1997-2001)
Games started at exactly 11:00 AM and before kickoff all participants had to sing the school anthem.
“Season 03 returns bigger, more teams, and looking forward to bigger sponsorships, and partnerships. Big thanks to all the support for the Butiki League,” Samuel Wanyera , chairperson Butiki league.
Nyulya FC cohort of 1999-2002 and the season 2 Butiki League defending champions just started from where they ended last with their winning streak. Last season they were the only unbeaten team in the Butiki League.
On Saturday, they played 3 games and pocketed the maximum points in each. However they got a walkover in the first fixture as Window FC didn’t turn up, won 4-0 in the second fixture against the youngest cohort in the league, Pizza Gaddafi (2015-2019), and ran riot against debutants, Top Layer F.C in a 10-1 thriller.
Former top scorer, Webster also known as Brazilian with 20 goals started this year’s edition with a 5-star performance as he found the back of the night 7 times in the 2 games he played and again topped the net busters table.
“It’s great that the Butiki league is back, this is where we link up with old boys and network but we use football as a uniting factor and moments are created,” Webster of Nyulya FC
When asked about retaining the golden boot. “I play for Nyulya FC and we play as a team. These individual accolades just come as a bonus and as a person, I don’t focus on being the league’s top scorer but once it happens it’s a plus for my team because I don’t play alone. Last season I was the top-scorer with 29 goals as for this season Allah knows better but so far I am leading with 7 goals.” He added.
