The leader of opposition in parliament Mr Joel Ssenyonyi has said that he has written to four government investigative bodies to take up the matter of corruption allegations at the house.
Mr Ssenyonyi told journalists at parliament that all the investigative authorities including, Inspectorate of Government, Financial Investigations Authority (FIA), Auditor General and the Director of Public Prosecutions to take up matters of mismanagement of funds.
“We have all these matters of allocation of contracts, sending money to parliamentary officials and irregular recruitment of parliament staff and we are saying they should be taken up by these authorities and I hope they can start now,” he said.
Last week, the leader of opposition wrote to the speaker of parliament to respond to different allegations of corruption that were flying on the internet through the X campaign dubbed #ParliamentExhibition that has been running for more than two weeks now.
In her response during the sitting, Ms Annet Anita Among, the speaker of parliament said that she was not ready to what she called “hear-say”.
“We have taken note of the hear-say on social media and I dont want to be pushed to respond to matters on social media but we shall handle it and have probably the IGG will investigate,” Speaker Among said.
During the press briefing, Mr Ssenyonyi also said that he had refunded the money that had been mistakenly sent to his account for the facilitation to Nairobi to check on ailing Kawempe North MP Muhammad Sssegirinya.
“I requested to go and check on Hon Ssegirinya for one night but a few days later I saw money of five days reflecting on my accounting. When
I asked they told me that they had made a mistake but they would deduct from my salary of April, I didnt wait for that time,I just withdrew the money and took it to the accountability committee,” he said.
