National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine has vowed to resume of the party’s nationwide mobilisation tours to Pallisa District Busoga sub region tomorrow after being blocked by security operatives from entering Kamuli District where he was scheduled to mobilise support for his party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“I hereby announce that tomorrow we are resuming our nationwide tour, tomorrow we are going to Pallisa,we are not breaking any law,we are not doing anything wrong we are a legitimate political party and therefore we are not committing any crime while all other political parties are going about their business we are being blocked,”Kyagulanyi said.
Yesterday NUP was set to resume its nation wide mobilisation tour which they dubbed second phase which is aimed at mobilising support in different parts of the country like they did last year in August 2023.
Unlike last time’s successful tours which went on almost uninterruption by the security operatives, this time round the police warned the National Unity Platform from carrying out any such activities because last year they failed to adhere to the set guidelines and as the team made their way to Kamuli it was intercepted and dispersed with bullets, tear gas and sound bombs to block them from proceeding to the final venue where they were expected to address the people.
“It should be noted that last year, the NUP mobilisation activities were suspended over non adherence to set guidelines, that led to public disorder, traffic disruption, loss of business, malicious damage to property and dangerous driving causing death and injuries among others,”ASP Kasadha Micheal,Regional Spokesperson Busoga North.
He also added that’”As the NUP leadership defiantly went on mobilisation and leading processions on the way to Kamuli District, their leader Hon.Robert Kyagulanyi,Hon.Joel Ssenyonyi,Leader of the opposition in Parliament,Hon Shamim Malende Kampala Woman MP,and a rowdy disorderly crowd were intercepted and dispersed proportionately between the border of Kamuli and Jinja District before they turned and went back.
“We have written a protest letter not because we expect the police to be any moral, but we wanted to go on record and just after this press conference our senior leaders are going to deliver it to the Inspector General of Police’s office.”Bobi Wine said.
This morning a team led by Hon.Joel Ssenyonyi together with other leaders from Nup have delivered a protest letter against the interruption of their activities by security forces to the Inspector General of Police, however they were blocked from entering the police headquarters and ended up handing the letter to a one Afande Wamunga on behalf of the IGP.
