Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB), a Pan-African multilateral development bank specializing in housing and urban infrastructure development, has been awarded the prestigious “Pan-African Development Bank Leadership Award – A Pioneer in Housing Finance” for its pivotal role in advancing housing finance across Africa. The award was presented during the 40th Anniversary Gala of the African Union for Housing Finance (AUHF) and the International Secondary Mortgage Market Association (ISSMA).
ShafDB’s leadership in sustainable development and affordable housing earned the recognition, with Ambassador Sharon Trail, founder of the AUHF, conferring the award. Ambassador Trail, who has been instrumental in shaping housing policy in Africa, was also honored with a lifetime achievement award.
Thierno-Habib Hann, Managing Director of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, expressed his gratitude, noting that the award reflected the bank’s mission to transform Africa’s housing and urban sectors.
“We are proud of the work we’ve done in collaboration with governments, development financial institutions, private developers, and financial institutions across Africa to provide affordable housing solutions,” he said.
ShafDB’s recognition comes at a time when its transformational ‘New Dawn’ strategy is taking shape, positioning the bank as a key player in Africa’s housing and urban infrastructure space. The award follows ShafDB’s recent designation as the anchor resource mobilization partner at the African Union’s Inaugural Africa Urban Forum as part of the Addis Ababa Declaration.
Four Decades of Impact
Over the past 40 years, ShafDB has played a crucial role in housing development across more than 40 African countries, offering long-term financing, promoting green building projects, and supporting inclusive community construction. As the bank looks to the future, it plans to leverage its expertise to tackle Africa’s housing challenges with scalable, sustainable, and inclusive solutions.
Mr. Hann dedicated the award to ShafDB’s shareholders, partners, clients, and communities, emphasizing that collaboration and teamwork have been critical to the bank’s achievements. He also thanked the institution’s board members and staff for their dedication, which has been key to fulfilling its mission for Africa’s development.
