URN.Students raised their concern through the guild office saying that they are not ready for exams because they have not had enough time to prepare.
Makerere University Business School has bowed to the students’ demands and extended the examination time table for one week.
This has come after students raised a concern through their guild saying that they are not ready for exams because they have not prepared enough.
In an anonymous letter students wrote to the guild office they demanded an extension of the semester saying that they have only studdied for 13 weeks instead of the 17 weeks meant for a semester.
Students also stated that because of the Covid-19 aftermath and the reduction in the weeks of study, they are still paying the same tuition amount.
Another reason they stated in the letter was that most current third year students have not done field work or internships due to the compacted university academic calendar.
Examinations at MUBS were meant to start on 2nd May but the students requested for an extension to prepare and enable them cover all the cover all the course outlines.
Christopher Wasswa a student pursuing Bachelors in Human resource said that they had not yet completed covering courses like Risk Management, Insurance and projects so they were not fit to sit for exams that were to start next week.
Janeritah Akello the minister for gender in the office of the guild said that as leaders they got a request from the students to postpone exams so that they can prepare themselves for the exams.
She also adds that the semester was very short and they had a lot of mater that was taught to them so students needed time to internalize what was taught to them to reduce the failure rate in exams.
Ashraf Gaaya pursuing a bachelor of procurement and supply chain management said that in a document they handed to the guild office they also wanted a one-month holiday after exams.
He adds that the guild council forwarded the students’ concerns to the university administration who held a meeting with the student’s leaders on Monday this week to discuss the student’s plight.
Eldred Kyomuhangi Manyindo the university registrar issued a document showing the extension of the undergraduate examination time table from 2nd May, to the 9th. \
The document indicates that the affected students are the undergraduates but the examination time table for the post graduate remain s unchanged .
