URN.Lutalo’s team suffered their second straight defeat in Group A last night to hosts Morocco at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
Uganda Crested Cranes head coach George William Lutalo has said they still have a chance to make it to the knock out stage at the on-going TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 in Morocco.
Lutalo’s team suffered their second straight defeat in Group A last night to hosts Morocco at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
It was a miserable night for defender Sumaya Komuntale who leveled matters for Uganda Crested Cranes in the first half, but got sent off late in the second half as the team suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Rosella Ayyane converted a penalty for the Atlas Lionesses after 15 minutes, but Komuntale’s sweet curving free kick after 32 minutes made it 1-1.
The hosts increased the tempo after recess with his intensity and accurate passing as Nesryne Elchad made it 2-1 after 68 minutes. Later Komuntale was judged to have fouled in the box and Morocco were awarded a second penalty which skipper Ghizlane Chebbak converted.
While Senegal that earlier beat Burkina Faso 1-0 and Morocco qualified for the knock out stage, Uganda’s chances now remain on finishing among the best two teams to finish third in each of the three groups.
Lutalo whose team also fell 2-0 in the opening match to Senegal said they must remain positive and keep working hard because they still have a chance.
The Uganda Crested Cranes will return to action on July 8th with a match against Burkina Faso to be played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
Action continues later today with Zambia facing Tunisia, while Togo take on Cameroon in Group B matches in Casablanca.
