Charles Onek, the LC 5 Councilor of Madi Opei Town Council told Uganda Radio Network that the two UPDF soldiers from Banabana 75th Battalion were guarding a kraal in Central Ward, Madi Opei Town Council, when the raiders struck around 1 am Wednesday morning.
The rustlers shot dead one of the soldiers and injured another before making off with at least 36 animals from the kraal belonging to a local businessman, Francis Olony.
Onek said the injured soldier is nursing injuries at Madi Opei Health Center IV.
Lamwo Resident District Commissioner, Geoffrey Osborne Oceng told URN he is yet to get the identity of both soldiers.
Oceng said they are still finding out if the raiders were already in the country because they were in an area where soldiers are always stationed to ensure security.
Oceng said they are also still finding out the identity of the rustlers before they pursue them and recover the animals.
Attempts to get a comment from the political commissar of the Banabana 75th battalion, Lt. Patrick Okia were futile as his known phone number was off by the time of filing this story.
