The national netball team, She Cranes has registered its first win 62-28 in Group B match against Trinidad and Tobago at the on-going Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Coach Fred Mugerwa’s side entered the clash at the National Exhibition Centre on Sunday determined to pick a win after they had lost the opening match to giants New Zealand on Saturday night.
Skipper Peace Proscovia started on the bench, while Mary Nuba started as a goal scorer.

She Cranes continued to push forward and ended the second quarter leading 33-13. Mugerwa’s team added 11 goals in the third quarter and 18 in the final quarter to command a respectable 62-28 win.
The win sees Uganda move to third place on the log, with two points below England and New Zealand which have 4 points each. They will return to action August 2nd against giants England. The six teams are all battling for the available two slots to make it to the semi-finals.
Boxing
Meanwhile, the boxing team (Bombers) captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa on Sunday also stormed the quarter-finals of the light welterweight category.
Tukamuhebwa defeated Australia’s Billy Polkinghorn by a split decision 4-1 at Hall Four at the National Exhibition Center. Tukamuhebwa will fight Canada’s Sanford, and victory in the quarters to earn him a medal.
While Tukamuhebwa was in winning form, his compatriot Yusuf Nkobeza’s journey in Birmingham came to an end when he lost England’s Lewis Richardson. Nkobeza joins his other countrymen who are already out of the games including Jonah Kyobe and Isaac “Zebra” Ssenyange Junior.
“It is sad that I have lost, but it was a good fight. I believe I will bounce back stronger because this experience was good for me,” said Nkobeza.a briefly said.
