It’s alleged that the suspect called Sergent Jimmy Odongo, a police officer at Nwoya Central Police Station on Monday and introduced himself as a Superintendent of Police. According to Police, the suspect claimed that he was heading to Alero Police station in Alero Sub-county to follow up on a contentious land matter registered under SD Ref:07/05/07/21.

He says the suspect had turned up with the alleged complainant in the land matter. Mudong says the suspect after brief interrogations it emerged that the suspect served as a police officer at Lira Central Police station but was dropped in 2014 after being convicted for an unspecified crime.
He notes that by the time of his arrest on Monday, the suspect was operating a business in the Bardege-Layibi division in Gulu City. According to Mudong, the suspect has since been charged for impersonation under SD Ref:06/29/05/22. Mudong says the police are also investigating the alleged land matter in Alero Sub-county to ascertain its authenticity.
He however warned the public against using middlemen in solving their land problems. Police believe the suspect could have obtained an unspecified amount of money from the complainant under the guise of handling his land woes as a police officer.
