William Ruto was sworn in on Tuesday 13th September as the 5th Kenya after beating his close rival Raila Odinga by 50.49% by 48.85% respectively in the just concluded presidential elections held on 9th August 2022.
This led his opponent Odinga to run to the supreme court in opposition to his victory, however, later the Supreme Court on September 5 upheld his victory, dismissing claims by his opponents of fraud and mismanagement.
Five weeks after the elections, William Ruto is to take his presidential oath of office at 2:00 pm E.A.T in presence of over 20 heads of state and thousands of guests within and outside Kenya at Nairobi stadium.
The 55-year-old Ruto in his office will have a task of proving his manifesto to Kenyans from which he promised to create 50-billion shilling ($415 million) he termed a “hustler fund” to provide loans to small businesses, and the commitment to bring down prices for fuel, grain and fertilizers since farming is one of the economic activities of the country and among others he highlighted in his victorious manifesto.
Outgoing president Kenyatta who pointedly failed to publicly congratulate his successor, finally on Monday 12th September shook hands with Ruto at a meeting at the presidential residence and promised to have a peaceful transition has he leaves office.Different from other African countries, Kenya will write history as they embrace their constitution, by giving Kenyatta a generous send-off as he leaves office having served two terms, the maximum allowed by law.
The 60-year-old will receive a tax-free lump sum of $324,000 and more than $600,000 in allowances every year.
He will also will also have access to fully furnished offices, dozens of aides, VIP security and new cars of his choice, replaced every three years.
