The Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola has officially retired three Assistant Inspector Generals (AIGPs) of Police and 35 other senior police officers.
The AIGPs include Edward Osiru Ochom who retired as Director of Police Operations, Asan Kasingye who retired as Director of the Chief Political Commissariat and Andrew Sorowen who retired as Director of Welfare and Production. The three did not have their contracts renewed by President Yoweri Museveni, even though they had applied for renewal.
However, Kasingye did not show up for the official retirement ceremony held at Naguru Police headquarters for unknown reasons. The retirees also included two Senior Commissioners of Police who include Geoffrey Chombe, and Henry Tukahirwa and three Commissioners of Police Alfred Moses Irungu, Sylvester Bagerize, and Stephen Kalinaki.
Ojok Ongom, the Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Pension at the Ministry of Public Service urged the retirees to ensure that they rectify all irregularities in their files to avoid encountering hurdles when accessing their gratuity. Ongom also asked the retirees to always fill out the life certificate form every year or else they will be scrapped off the pension payroll.
The Deputy Director of Police Human Resource Management John Musana said the retirees should be proud of their contribution to the country. Musana added that more than 500 police officers will have retired this year.
IGP Ochola jokingly told the retirees not to lose hope since they can be appointed Inspector General of Police because it’s a political appointment.
