Former URA FC and Uganda Cranes midfield maestro, Patrick Ochan turning things around at the Kigezi regional-based side for his first season as a coach-player.
Known to many as “master” due to his swiftness in the middle of the park, Ochan has been phenomenal at the club despite being his first season and first time in the Western part of Uganda.
Kigezi HomeBoyz FC is on top of the Kigezi Sub Region table with 44 points in the 17 games played so far. However it’s a mouth watering table as the second placed team, Rwampara Bulls has the same number of points just 1 goal less as it has 39 goals.
On Saturday, 29th April 2023, the two teams will face off in a decisive game in what can be called as a final because the table leader will have to go in for playoffs against the table leader in the Ankole region. The winner of this game then faces the winner in the Kitara region on a home and away basis and the overall winner qualifies to the FUFA Big League.Speaking to NEWS247,coach-player Patrick Ochan had this to say, “On Saturday we are playing a decider against Rwampara Bulls and all we want is either a draw or a win whereas they need a must win to qualify.”
when asked about the team qualifying for the Big League, “It’s a long way but i believe we shall be there as we shall play two playoffs. Just know it’s a long process to get there but we are working towards that.” He said.
When asked about his first season at the club, “It was not easy at the start, the team sold off some of the good players but I am happy the players here at the club work hard, their mentality is top notch. At times I felt like giving up and go back to Kampala but these players motivated me to work with simply because they adopt sk fast and focused to winning nothing else.”
“Bt the united in the team motivates me a lot the guys r really focused and am very impressed with the work ethic they have put in the entire season not forgetting the technical team head by Tushabe Denis we work hand in hand on a daily basis to ensure we achieve our primary target of reaching the play big league play offs and push even harder to reach our main goal of promotion to fufa big league. We r the homes Boyz we build our own talent and Kigezi has talent.” Talking about the technical team.
