A 68-year-old man in Luweero District has murdered his wife and two step-children, and left critical injuries on two other step-children.
Steven Musisi, is accused of hacking his wife, Nagayi Aisha, and two stepchildren, Namiiro Esther and Mutebi Jonathan, to death with a machete. He also inflicted grave injuries to Namutebi Carol and Namuddu Cathy, who are both in critical condition at a local hospital.
Musisi is said to have been having a domestic conflict with his wife over her two children from a previous relationship. On the night of July 5, he attacked his family in their home in Bukomba village. He then hanged himself on the door to his bedroom.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that the killings were “a gruesome act of brutality.” He urged parents and guardians to stop viewing children as their possessions and to seek help if they are in toxic family relationship.
“The young children’s right to life, was absolutely violated,” in parts reads a press release from Fred Enanga, Police Spokesperson.
Article 22 of the Uganda constitution grants protection of right to life. Section(1) stipulates that no person shall be deprived of life intentionally except in execution of a sentence passed in a fair trial by a court of competent jurisdiction in respect of a criminal offence under the laws of Uganda and the conviction and sentence have been confirmed by the highest appellate court.
Section (2) of the same indicates that a person has the right to terminate the life of an unborn child except as may be authorized by law.
The two children who were injured in the attack are still in critical condition. Police are investigating the case.
