The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has taken a firm stand against a deceitful advertisement circulating on various social media platforms, warning the public about a fraudulent job recruitment scheme.
The deceptive advertisement falsely claims to be inviting applications for recruitment into various positions on the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) 2023.
In a resolute press release, the Executive Director and Chief Statistician of UBOS, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, denounced the fraudulent advert, declaring it as nothing short of a scam.
“The circulating advert is FAKE and is intended to dupe the unsuspecting innocent youth looking for employment,” he stated.
Dr. Mukiza further asserted, “There is no ongoing Ad Hoc recruitment for the NPHC 2023, as indicated by the link https://bit.ly/UBOS-
UBOS cautioned the public against the fraudulent advertisement, urging them to treat it with extreme caution and not fall victim to its ploys. “The said advert should, therefore, be treated with the contempt it deserves, and the public is further strongly warned against being conned through such unauthorized and unqualified information,” emphasized the Bureau.
UBOS has encouraged individuals who may have already fallen prey to the scam or could be at risk to report the matter immediately to the authorities. Dr. Mukiza implored victims to provide credible evidence that could lead to the successful prosecution and conviction of those perpetrating the exploitative scheme.
Underscoring the Bureau’s commitment to transparency, Dr. Mukiza reiterated UBOS’s genuine recruitment process. “Whenever there is any need to recruit temporary or permanent staff, the Bureau advertises in both the mainstream media and on its website www.ubos.org, and a link for submission of online applications is made available,” he clarified.
Dr. Mukiza assured the public that official announcements regarding the NPHC 2023 recruitment and schedule of activities will be communicated solely through these official channels.
“At an appropriate time, the Bureau shall communicate using these official and rightful channels regarding the recruitment and schedule of activities for the NPHC 2023,” he affirmed.
UBOS has issued a stern warning to those behind the circulation of unofficial adverts or any unauthorized communication associated with the Bureau. “The wrongdoers engaged in circulating unofficial adverts or other unofficial communication associated with UBOS are adversely warned against this criminal practice. Once identified, they will be dealt with in accordance with the national laws,” stated Dr. Mukiza.
In light of this deceptive job advertisement, UBOS urged the public to exercise utmost vigilance and caution when applying for jobs online, especially when the source raises doubts. Job seekers are strongly advised to rely solely on official channels and verified platforms to safeguard themselves from falling prey to scams.
For up-to-date information and authentic updates regarding the NPHC 2023 recruitment, the public is urged to remain vigilant and refer only to UBOS’s official website and mainstream media outlets. UBOS remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring a transparent and legitimate recruitment process for the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census.
