The Archbishop-elect Paul Ssemogerere has led his last Christmas mass at Kasana Luwero diocese as he prepares to take over Kampala Archdiocese.

On December 9th, 2021, Pope Francis appointed the Kasana Luwero Bishop, Paul Ssemogerere to take over Kampala Archdiocese.

Ssemogerere has served as Bishop of Kasana-Luwero since June 4, 2008, following his replacement of the late Dr. Kizito Lwanga, who had been elevated as Archbishop of Kampala two years earlier.

On Christmas, the Archibishop elect led his last mass at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Kasana Cathedral in Luwero town.

He revealed that his elevation was a surprise because he thought that he would retire in the diocese after serving for 13 years.

Ssemogerere noted that he now has two months to prepare his handover as Bishop of Kasana –Luwero Diocese effective from the date he was elevated and left for  Kampala Archdiocese.

He explained that he has ceased being the Diocesan Bishop and is now serving as the Diocesan Administrator till Pope Francis appoints an Apostolic Administrator or another Bishop for the Diocese.

Ssemogerere thanked Christians of Kasana-Luwero Diocese for looking after him for the years he has served as Bishop and asked them to pray for him to serve well at his new appointment.

He noted that he was unhappy to leave the Diocese when some Christians are still practising witchcraft, an evil which he strongly condemned.

He also asked residents to stop fronting the mindset of their contribution to the National Resistance Army War, which ended in 1986 and instead concentrate on developing the area.

On behalf of the Christians, Charles Ssebyala,  the Head of Laity at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Kasana Cathedral handed over a plaque to the Archbishop-elect Ssemogerere in appreciation of his great contribution to the diocese.

Brenda Nabukenya, the Luwero District Woman Member of Parliament applauded Ssemogerere for promoting the education and economic empowerment of Christians.

Robert Ssekitoleko, the Bamunanika County Member of Parliament asked him to remain a voice for the voiceless and remind President Yoweri Museveni to fulfil his pledges to the area.

Denes Sekabira, the Katikamu North Member of Parliament asked the Archbishop-elect to promote peace and unite Christians who were divided by the general elections.

The Luwero Anglican Bishop, Eridard Nsubuga Kironde also congratulated Ssemogerere upon his elevation and wished him luck.

Ssemogerere has been able to complete the multimillion Kasana Luwero Diocese Multipurpose commercial building, ensure Bishop Ceaser Asili health centre IV is elevated to a hospital and construct three other health centres.

He also elevated at least four churches into parishes and recently commissioned a building to host a bank in Kapeeka town. He also oversaw the extension of the guest house at Kasana-Luwero Diocese, which is still ongoing among other developments.

Ssemogerere will replace Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga who died April 8, 202,1 this year.
