The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu cultural institution has received Shillings 300million under the Emyooga Program as part of the government support to the institution.
The money will be disbursed to 10 Emyooga groups spread across the five constituencies that make up Kasese District. In 2020, the government said it was giving OBR special consideration under the Emyooga program through separate funding to specifically cater for veterans and leaders that are within the Kingdom structures.
Ms. Hellen Masika, the deputy executive director of Microfinance support Center-MSC, says that the cultural Institution was given special consideration given the multiple challenges including conflicts and disasters that have affected its economy.
She said that the beneficiary groups have gone through formal training on financial literacy to help them in areas of accountability and transparency.
Masika has warned the beneficiaries not to misuse the financial resources because all those who benefited will have to account for the money.
The OBR Premiere Kule Joseph Muranga, said that veterans and leaders of the institution have been living in abject poverty in the absence of financial capital to start development projects. Muranga hailed the government for the funds pledging proper management and visible transformation of the beneficiaries.
Sulait Kule, one of the beneficiaries reminded the government to sensitize and train people on how Saccos work so that such funding can be well managed. He said that the money will help him to improve his savings.
The Kasese deputy resident district commissioner-RDC Joshua Masereka, says that if used well, the money will help to tame the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the beneficiaries.
He warns the groups against misusing the money arguing that previous government support has not helped such groups because members misuse the money since it’s free from the government.
