Bilal Islamic, a secondary school in Bwaise that caught fire last week is set to reopen after a fundraising drive that fetched in excess of the required funds to work on the first phase.
The money raised by Muslim well-wishers and old students of the school was 72,134,200 and will be used to buy mattresses, blankets, bedsheets and beds to enable the learners resume studies on Monday.
According to the chairman fundraising committee Haji Latif Ssebaggala they had a target of collecting 50 million to buy mattress and beds for 300 students of senior one and senior two whose dormitory got burnt.
The head master Bilal Islamic Secondary Isa Jjagwe Adnan appreciated the act exhibited by Moslems for the love of their school.
He also said that he is going to work hand in hand with the fundraising committee to see that they get a new building for the school.
Hajat Minsa Kabanda the Minister for Kampala urged schools to be vigilant and also install working fire extinguishers and teach students fire fighting drills.
She together with her state Minister Kyofatogabye Kabuye donated 200 bags of cement and said that they will to send inspectors from KCCA to determine the state of the building and consider building a new block for the school.
The lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago condemned Police for allegedly not doing investigations to find out and end the cause of the ongoing school in the country. But the POlice DIrector of Fire and Rescue Services Joseph Migisha recently gave an update of their investigations and shockingly revealed that most school fires have been caused deliberately by management wrangles.
Asuman Basalirwa the chairman of Muslim parliamentarians urged Muslims to always be at a fore front to handle issues concerning Islam without having to wait for other people and government.
He has also said that the parliament of Uganda through the deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among have donated 100 iron sheets to the school.
