The murders of local security guards by unknown assailants at Namuyenje Parish in Nakisunga Sub County Mukono district have left residents under serious panic.
In a period of two weeks, three local security guards and one resident have been reportedly attacked and hacked to death at their workstations. On March 27, a team of thugs attacked and killed two local guards at St. John Secondary School, Kyawambogo Village in Namuyenje Parish at around 2am.
The guards at St. John SS are Patrick Kanyole, 58 and Fred Hyuha, 27. Police preliminary investigations indicate that the bodies were found with deep cuts on their heads and abrasions around the neck area, showing signs of strangulation.
The thugs after killing them, went and broke into the offices of the headteacher and bursar, taking off with an unspecified amount of money and other items. A week before the incident, Edward Kyangwe, 60 was also cut and the body dropped along the road near his home at Namuyenje village.
Last week on Friday, still unknown thugs attacked and killed a local guard identified as Latifu Rashid, 36. He was attacked at Namuyenje night parking. Thugs took off with two motorcycles.
Robinson Wampona, the Namuyenje LCI Chairperson says the insecurity in the community does not only stop with murders but also assaulting old women and girls, especially those staying alone in houses and others who make early in the morning to go to gardens.
Another resident at Namuyenje, Jamiru Kawooya attributes the high number of insecurity cases to the lack of police patrols in the community besides the absence of a police post in a busy parish like Namuyenje.
Kawooya appeals to security organs to limit the movement of people beyond midnight unless there is a genuine reason for movement.
He also notes that churches and bars should also be restricted from making noise beyond midnight since it deters residents from listening to those crying out for help in case they are attacked.
Ronald Ssentongo, a resident at Kyawambogo advises residents to ensure locking their house doors well but also revive the system neighborhood watch by relating well with their neighbours.
Meanwhile, the District Police Commander, Annabelle Nyinamahoro says police have established a strong intelligence system in the area to trap the culprits but also they are committed to intensifying patrolling the entire sub county.
“We are not going to allow unnecessary movements beyond midnight unless one can’t move. Our operations will stretch to places producing unnecessary noise,” Nyinamahoro says.
She also advises places with CCTV cameras to secure control rooms from simple access. Nyinamahoro says in places where the killings have happened, DVR for the CCTV cameras have been accessed and taken.
