URN.Coach Lawrence Mahatlane says that the team has now shifted focus to preparations for the third and final round of the qualifiers that will be staged later in August in Jersey.
The National Senior Men’s Cricket Team, the Cricket Cranes have shifted focus to the final round of the Cricket Challenge B after finishing top of the group in the second round.
Uganda registered a seven-wicket victory against rivals Kenya in the famous “Migingo Derby” to seal a top spot after their last second-round game of the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B.
The result meant that the Cricket Cranes completed the second-round campaign on top of the League B table with 16 points.
Coach Lawrence Mahatlane says that the team has now shifted focus to preparations for the third and final round of the qualifiers that will be staged later in August in Jersey.
Although he says the task ahead will not be easy, he is nevertheless hopeful that his side will battle for the best.
But, to win their last three games, the Cricket Cranes are making a comeback after losing the opening two matches to Jersey and Hong Kong but, nevertheless, the boys fought hard to win the last three games more importantly their clash against Kenya.
Coach Mahatlane says that after losing the first two games, he urged the players to relax and play their own game, and capitalize on the triumph they had secured in the first round of the qualifiers.
Uganda came to the second round with an advantage after producing a top performance during the first round of the qualifiers where they won all their five matches in the 1st round in Oman, beating Kenya, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Jersey, and Italy.
If Uganda maintains its lead at the top after the third which is also the final round, the Cricket Cranes will progress to another level of the qualifier as they bid to earn their maiden appearance in the World Cup that will be hosted in India.
Meanwhile, before the Jersey event, Cricket Cranes will take part in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifier scheduled for July 9-18 in Bulawayo, and the team has since embarked on preparations for the event.
