East Kyoga Police is stuck with the body of one of the Monday morning Amuria road accident victims. The deceased has only been identified as Rachael. She died while being transferred to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital after the accident that claimed 12 traders on the spot.
Her body is still lying in Soroti City mortuary. Nobody has shown up to claim it. Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, says that the bodies of the 12 other victims were identified by relatives and conveyed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital on Monday evening for postmortem.
He notes that after the postmortem, the relatives will be allowed to take the bodies of their loved ones for burial. According to Ageca, they have failed to establish the full name or home of the last victim since the survivors of the accidents left for their respective homes.
After the accident, the police put stringent measures for the identification of the deceased traders. Ageca said that the measures were instituted to ensure that wrong elements don’t take advantage of the situation to steal bodies from the Amuria morgue.
Investigations into the cause of the accidents are still ongoing, according to the Police. However, some of the survivors told our reporter that the driver veered off the road because of a Gateway bus Reg. No. UAQ 462Z that was parked along the road. The Wera- Asamuk road is a feeder road opened recently for small cars but it has become a major route to Amuria following the poor state of Soroti- Amuria main road.
