The Judiciary Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana has warned judicial officers against driving government vehicles without his approval.
He issued the warning at the ongoing induction of the newly appointed Chief magistrates at Collin Hotel in Mukono municipality when some of the magistrates noted that they are forced to drive their official vehicles due to the lack of drivers.
The Rakai Chief Magistrate, Augustine Alule informed the meeting that he decided to drive himself because his driver abandoned work without giving any reason,s and yet he has to execute his mandate.
The Kapichorwa Chief Magistrate, Severino Muhangi also revealed to the PS that he is struggling to drive without permission. He explained that he didnt find a driver when he was posted to Kapchorwa from Isingiro district.
However, Bigirimana warned the Chief magistrates that they are not supposed to drive the government vehicles without his approval with the advice of the government’s chief mechanical engineer who is supposed to assess and determine their capacity to drive.
“Driving without official approval is not accepted. it puts your lives at risk but also the government vehicle. Ask for drivers, I have just signed ten waiting for deployment. I warn you, once our vehicle gets involved in any kind of accident and gets damaged you’re in trouble and you shall be charged in your very court,” Bigirimana noted.
Bigirimana advised the magistrates to put all their challenges on paper for immediate intervention. He also warned the magistrates against traveling on Boda bodas, saying that it lowers their profile. He advised the judicial officials to protect their image by avoiding activities that may portray them as a public nuisance such as getting drunk, going to nightclubs, and also sorts of bribery.
