The former Commander of Land forces and the newest member of a small group of men who hold the highest millitary rank in Uganda, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba officially received his pips as a four-star general of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) at the Military Barracks in Bombo
On his way to Bombo, Muhoozi was joined by a procession of his supporters at Kawanda donning white t-shirts with messages congratulating him on achieving the highest millitary rank attainable.
The former Commander was decorated by his wife Charlotte Kainerugaba and Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence and national cordinator of operation wealth creation Gen Salim Saleh.
Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga was also piped by Gen Saleh and his wife before officially being handed the office of commander land forces replacing Muhoozi.
During the ceremony Maj Gen Steven Kavuma mentioned that the army has a vital role to play in the country’s development.
“You can’t have security when people are disgrunted and don’t have food. You get insecurity,” he said

Muhoozi was promoted to full General rank last week by the President following tweets he had made that were interpreted as a declaration of war on Kenya.
In a letter addressed to Kenyans, Museveni while justifying the promotion of Muhoozi right after he had caused an international diplomatic incident said he was rewarding him for many other goof things he has done for the country in the past.
Muhoozi, who joined the army in 1999, was last week promoted from the rank of Lieutenant General to General by President Museveni making him one of the youngest people to have attained that rank in the UPDF’s history.
Muhoozi joined the UPDF at the rank of officer cadet and graduated in 2000 from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the British Army’s officer training school.
He further attended other several other military schools including the South African National Defence College for the Executive National Security Program.
He has led military operations in South Sudan, DRC and Somalia.
