Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi Regional police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Joy Chemutai 25, and her son Jonathan 4, both residents of Matingot Cell, Karasa ward, Eastern Division in Kapchorwa Municipality.
Police in Kapchorwa district are investigating circumstances, under which an expectant mother and her four-year-old son burnt to death in their grass-thatched house while sleeping.
Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi Regional police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Joy Chemutai 25, and her son Jonathan 4, both residents of Matingot Cell, Karasa ward, Eastern Division in Kapchorwa Municipality.
According to Chesang, the incident occurred at around 2 am on October 25th, 2022, saying police recieved an alert from the deceased’s brother, Joel Yeko.
According to Yeko, he got the door locked as he tried to rescue the victims from the blazing fire. “It was hard, and I could not handle it since it had spread to the entire house,” Yeko said.
A relative who preferred not to be named said Chemutai had earlier on had a misunderstanding with his parents on October 24th when they noticed that she was expectant for the second time while still under their care.
The deceased’s bodies are at Kapchorwa Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem. URN
