Uganda Police have carried out an intelligence led operation in three different areas and recovered over 40tonnes of angle lines used to construct high voltage power lines and 13 people have been arrested.
These operations were carried out in three locations, social center scrap yard in Mengo parish,Kampala central division Kampala district ,Nakitende scrap yard at Budonian village Mengo parish and Kisenyi scrap dealers opposite Ham building center Kampala central division Kampala District.
Patrick Onyango,Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police said, “The operation targeted areas where suspected electrical materials are stored and sold in areas of kisenyi,this comes after reports of constant vandalism of Umeme electrical materials in different parts of the country and are bought and sold amongst them in areas of Kisenyi and surrounding areas.”
Last week, the Umeme board explained the power outages and load-shading were attributed to the high vandalism across the country.
Recovered items include; Rails of railway line, Angle bars for electricity power line and solar poles suspected to be of KCCA.
Key suspects are ;Ssebagala Robert,Maganda Arafat,Kyomugisha Racheal,Naluyima Aisha,Nabakooza Allen and the seven other suspects are detained at Old Kampala Police Station.
