With about a handful of days to Christmas day, traders have maintained the market prices of commodities but have not ruled out the possibility of stepping up their merchandise, a day or two, to the eve.
A market survey done by News 24/7 over the past two weeks around the main markets in Kampala and parts of Wakiso Districts shows that the prices of most of the groceries on the stalls still have similar price labeling as they did about two weeks ago.
On a similar last year, prices have already been increased by more than double but asked why it is not the case this time round, vendors attributed this to the country’s economy that has never recovered from Covid19 and the lockdowns which affected their businesses and their clients at large.
“Customers rarely come by this economy is very tight for us, there’s no way we can increase prices when we don’t even have buyers and our leaders have not done anything to help us go through this tough economy,” Mr Job Matovu, a Matooke vendor at Nakawa market said.
A one Edward Kaggwa, a butcher in Nakawa Market told us that they have not yet increased the prices of the commodities because transport fares are still normal and unless the abatures increase beef prices will the revise their too.
Most of the other places that we visited; traders held the same views.
