Airtel Uganda has renewed its partnership with Buganda Kingdom for another three years today 16th March 2023. This contract extension was announced today at Bulange in Mengo in the presence of the Katikiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Managing Director and sales director of Airtel Uganda.
The Katikiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, welcomed the renewal of the contract on behalf of Buganda Kingdom and he extended his sincere thanks to Airtel Uganda for the longstanding support they have embraced to the Kingdom for the last nine years.
“We appreciate the support that we get from partners like Airtel Uganda, and the renewal of this contract is timely as it will help us to continue hosting some of the Kingdom activities like the Kabaka Birthday Run which is now in its 10th year, the Masaza football tournament among others.” said Owek. The intention for this partnership seeks to invest in transformative activities in Buganda Culture, Sports, health, education, digital and financial inclusion among others.
This collaboration between the Smartphone Network Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom has been in existence since 2014 with different transformation initiatives. This has brought about positive impact the lives of people in Buganda and beyond. These include Africa’s biggest run, the annual Kabaka Birthday Run, the Masaza Cup Tournament, Eid Celebrations, among other activities that are strong platforms for engagement with the community.

The Smartphone Network has also supported grassroot football talent development through the Masaza Football tournament. They have also continued to provide local economic opportunities for young people through the strong Airtel- K2 distribution network of franchise partners, agents and suppliers in Buganda and the whole country.

Charles Peter Mayinga for their reflective leadership that inspires people to be healthy, work harder and improve their lives and transform Buganda Kingdom.
Airtel Uganda, the Smartphone Network with 100% 4G coverage in the country, also recently announced the readiness of 5G Rollout, and Smart Poles deployment in built up areas intended to improve Internet access and connectivity for the business community in the Central Business Community in the Kampala and the rest of the country.
