“You are demonstrating for a right cause. However, you need to explore peaceful ways of having your voices heard such as dialogue than take to the streets,” Speaker of Parliament Anita Among told interns who petitioned her office over delayed deployment and she ordered for the immediate release without charges all those who had been arrested and thrown into police cells.
In the meeting, Speaker Among promised to handle their issues and immediately referred their petition to the Health committee of Parliament for consideration.
“Parliament is open to all, whenever you have any pressing matters, walk in peacefully and no one should stop you,” she said.
This afternoon, a team of medical interns were arrested as they matched their way to parliament to petition the speaker over the delayed deployment and the payment of their enhanced emoluments. This petition was however, received by the speaker as she met with some of the petitioners.
