The Uganda Bankers Association conference has kicked off today at Kampala Serena Hotel under the theme, ‘The trends and innovations in the fintech space, changing the face of banking and financial services.
This year’s annual bankers’ conference will help shed more on the power of digital innovations in the Ugandan banking sector.
Speaking at this year’s Annual Bankers’ Conferences held in Kampala, Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego, the deputy governor Bank of Uganda said the move will also help improve economic modeling and forecasting for monetary policy and market operation.
“IT security, therefore, becomes increasingly important because of the new convenience which comes with increasing risks as cybercriminals who exploit the vulnerabilities in the digital system to breach defenses and gain unauthorized access to valuable data.’’
The conference seeks to among others have an analysis of the contribution that fintech and other players in the financial eco-system including mobile network operators make towards the growth and transformation of banking.
The conference will speak about the trends in the fintech space, the regulatory environment, opportunities within the entire spectrum of digital financial services as well as the risks both present and emerging including cyber-security concerns.
The Executive Director UBA Wilbrod Owor, said the conference which is slated to end tomorrow will focus on how best players in the payments and wider financial system can competitively and sustainably leverage technology to offer solutions, enhance customer experience, drive penetration, and foster economic development.
